Leeds Breast Cancer Research Group raises over £900 with planting demos
The plants team at a Bradford Garden Centre helped a Leeds breast cancer research group to raise over £900 recently.
On 17th May, Tong Garden Centre’s Plants Supervisor, Joe Appleyard did a summer planting demonstration at Horsforth Golf Club to raise funds for Breast Cancer Research Action Group (BCRAG).
During the ‘Planning for Summer with Joe’ event, Mr. Appleyard shared his hints and tips for the perfect plants and growing material for baskets and containers that will bloom all summer long. Proceeds from the evening came from ticket sales, a plant stall, a spring craft stall and a raffle that included the baskets that Mr. Appleyard had made during his demonstration.
The event was one of a series of fundraisers organised by the Breast Cancer Research Action fundraising group that was formed in 1994 by ex-breast cancer patients and their supporters. The group has raised £1.8 million that is used to fund vital research in Leeds.
BCRAG’s Fundraising Coordinator, Susan Wright said: “Thank you so much for all the support you gave us in setting up this event, the very generous raffle prizes you provided and the publicity at Tong.
“I hope we can collaborate again in the future as we continue our fundraising efforts in the fight against breast cancer.”
Tong Garden Centre occupies a 19-acre site in Tong village. It is one of Yorkshire’s biggest independent garden centres with 125,000 square feet of retail space and parking for up to 700 cars.
