Two new self-build plots available on Dane Avenue
In response to the need for more homes in the city and following the success of Lowfield Green’s six self-build plots which featured on Channel 4’s Grand Designs, City of York Council is offering two new opportunities for self-builders.
These plots are to support people to get on the housing ladder by building their own homes. Both are on Dane Avenue, Acomb, where outline planning permission for one detached house per plot has been secured.
Previously, the site was occupied by a pair of semi-detached ‘British and Iron Foundation’ council houses and is now clear ready for construction.
All necessary utilities can be connected from the adjacent road and plot buyers will need to apply for new service connections from the relevant providers.
Each home must have a minimum of two bedrooms with maximum gross internal areas of 106m2 (plot 1) and 114m2 (plot 2).
To guide and support buyers and their architects, an approved design code has been developed which encourages building lower-carbon homes.
Cllr Michael Pavlovic, Executive Member for Housing, Planning and Safer Communities, said: “These two plots present an opportunity to build two high-quality homes. We know there is considerable demand for well-serviced self-build plots and here, at Dane Avenue, is a chance to add to a thriving community and create two homes for each household and future households to enjoy.”
The council’s Self Build team will provide support and guidance to those interested, from the registration process and through construction until the homes are ready for moving in.
