Governor vacancies – Bradford Girls’ Grammar School
BGGS is seeking to recruit new governors to its Board, particularly with expertise and experience in Finance, HR, law or IT to complement the skills already round the table. The school has enjoyed long and rewarding relationships with Bradford based businesses and feels that there is mutual reward for their employees, the pupils at the school and the future prosperity of the city of Bradford to develop and build on these links.
Bradford Girls’ Grammar School was founded in 1875 has been a Free School since September 2013 offering an unique educational provision to Bradford as an all-through school, providing a first class education for up to 1,200 pupils, girls aged 11 – 18 and for girls and boys aged 4 -11. In addition, there is an independent co-educational nursery for children from babies to 4 year olds on the campus which extends to 17 acres, situated on the edge of Bradford city centre with beautiful grounds and buildings and excellent facilities.
BGGS is dedicated to the wellbeing and development of its pupils as individuals and provides a broad and challenging academic curriculum for pupils of all abilities complemented by an exciting range of extra-curricular opportunities leading to high levels of progress, achievement and success. It is a school with a proud history and strong tradition for educating young women to their full potential, promoting independence and developing leadership skills.
BGGS is committed to providing a first class all round education, enriching the lives of all its pupils and preparing them for the challenges of an increasingly complex workplace. The school promotes an environment in which personal development is valued alongside academic achievement, high standards of behaviour are expected from pupils and these are promoted through their relationships with each other, with staff and with the wider community.
The appointments would be as a governor, trustee and company director of Bradford Girls’ Grammar School Trust, the charitable company limited by guarantee set up to operate the Free School. The Board of Governors consists of a maximum of 12 governors plus parent governors providing a range of expertise from a breadth of academic and business backgrounds. This should ensure that the time commitment as a member is not overly onerous or burdensome. There are four Board meetings a year and one sub-committee meeting each term and several school events each year, although further contribution to school life is always welcome. These appointments offer an opportunity to contribute to this school at a very exciting phase in its long history.
You would be most welcome to visit the school and see it in action. For more information or any further details please e-mail the Vice Chair alisonjcooper@btinternet.com who would be delighted to give further insight to the rewards of governorship at BGGS.
