Support local children with their reading
As part of Leeds Year of Reading, Leeds City Council and TutorMate are collaborating to provide businesses with a fantastic opportunity to give direct support to local children who need help with their reading. Employees can volunteer for just 30 minutes per week over an academic year, from the comfort of their own office by using an internet platform and voice connection link to a dedicated classroom laptop. Up to 10 children in a single Year 1 class participate, giving the programme a great reach and scale. The programme has already been successful rolled out in cities such as Bradford and it is supported by a number of businesses including John Lewis, Google and Reed Smith.
