Make a difference this Great British Spring Clean
City of York Council is appealing to residents, schools, businesses and community groups to get involved in the Great British Spring Clean 2024.
This year the ninth annual Great British Spring Clean will take place from 15 -31 March 2024.
During the Great British Spring Clean, the council will lend a hand to support anyone taking part, including:
- providing equipment, to help make jobs quicker and easier to do
- collecting bagged litter
- promoting community events
- offering practical advice
- sharing health and safety guidance
As well as encouraging everyone to organise their own litter picks, this year we are also supporting pre-organised community litter picks and ‘tidy ups’ in areas across the city. Events will be taking place at: Bur Dyke Beck, Viking Road Play Area and football field, Acomb Wood, Westfield Marsh, Glen Gardens and surrounding area and the Groves.
If you enjoy taking part and would like to continue, you can register to join over 1800 individuals who volunteer throughout the year across the city in a variety of volunteer roles.
Cllr Jenny Kent, Joint Executive Member for Environment and Climate Emergency, said:
“We all love our city and want it to look good. Whether your street, school, park, or favourite green spot needs some extra love and attention, or a big blitz on rubbish, why not get together with friends and neighbours and arrange a litter pick. Let’s make our city shine this Spring.”
