The Pavers Foundation Donates £50,000 to Mental Health Charity Shout 85258
Leading UK shoe retailer Pavers’ charitable trust, Pavers Foundation, has donated £50,000 to Shout
85258 after colleagues voted it to be their 2021 charity of the year.
The Pavers Foundation was established to share Pavers success through charitable giving to causes
close to the hearts of its 1,400-strong staff. The charity of the year initiative, which is part of the
Foundation’s activities, involved colleagues in head office and across the Pavers, Jones Bootmaker
and Herring shoe stores voting for their favourite charity from a shortlist of four.
Wishing to show support to its three runner-up charities, the Foundation donated £2,500 each to
Shelter, Children with Cancer and The Brain Tumour Charity.
Shout 85258 provides the only free, 24/7 text messaging service for anyone in the UK and Ireland
who needs support. Shout can help with issues including depression, anxiety, abuse, panic attacks,
suicidal thoughts, self-harm, relationship problems and bullying.
Speaking about the donation, Victoria Hornby, CEO of Mental Health Innovations, the charity which
powers Shout 85258 said:
“We are absolutely delighted to be partnered with the Pavers Foundation
and are so grateful for their support. The funds they donate will go towards training Shout
Volunteers who will be able to support thousands more people who are struggling to cope with their
mental health. News of Shout first travelled to the British shoe company through our amazing
volunteer community and we’re proud to join leading charities including Mind, Macmillan Cancer
Support and Dementia UK who have all previously been awarded the Pavers Foundation Charity of
the Years status. We are so grateful to all our volunteers for helping us to get the word out about
Shout, and to Pavers for their incredible support.”
Shout 85258 is the first service from charity Mental Health Innovations. The service was researched
and developed with The Royal Foundation as a legacy of the Heads Together campaign and was
launched to the public in May 2019. The service has supported texters in more than 650,000
conversations, and through the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. The text service is free and
accessible from all major mobile networks and anyone wishing to access support can text SHOUT to
85258 in the UK or HELLO to 50808 in Ireland.
Mark Granger, Chairman, Pavers Foundation commented:
“We are delighted to be able to support the incredible work Shout 85258 does in making a difference to so many people. I think it is poignant that at such a difficult time for mental health across the globe, our colleagues have chosen this charity to support. The Paver family started the foundation with a passion for making a positive difference to people’s lives. We believe this partnership with Shout embodies the whole principle on which the Foundation was created. As Chair of this wonderful initiative, I am proud that on behalf of the family and our people, we can make this donation to Shout which will allow them to continue to have a positive impact on so many people’s lives”.
Founded by Catherine Paver in 1971, Pavers established the Foundation in 2018 to enable charitable
giving by the business and its 1400 colleagues. Through the Foundation, Pavers has supported good
causes in health, education and community via its; employee grant application scheme, charities of
the year, together with donations made on behalf of the family. Since its launch, The Pavers
Foundation has donated over £913,000, and is looking forward to reaching its £1m milestone of
