Yorkshire Wildlife Trust receives £1,000 donation from local housebuilder
Local housebuilder, Barratt Developments Yorkshire East, has donated £1,000 as part of its Community Fund initiative to Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, a charity that operates within the East Riding of Yorkshire. The charity supports over 100 Nature Reserves across Yorkshire, including the Potteric Carr Nature Reserve which is near David Wilson Homes Edwin Vale development in Doncaster. The charity is dedicated to conserving, protecting and restoring wildlife and wild places across Yorkshire.
Established in 1946, the chosen charity looks after over 100 nature reserves across Yorkshire and is involved in hundreds of other conservation-related projects. Yorkshire Wildlife Trust are committed to creating awareness so more people have a genuine and meaningful connection with nature.
Across East Yorkshire, the charity cares for wildlife on several reserves, including birds such as bitterns which have recently been seen at North Cave Wetlands, as well as significant populations of beautiful marbled white butterflies at Kiplingcotes Chalk Pit and puffins on Flamborough Cliffs. Additionally, the Trust manages one of the UK’s most northern chalk streams at Skerne Wetlands near Driffield; once a commercial fish farm, this peaceful reserve now supports water vole and kingfisher.
With the help of the £1,000 donation from Barratt Developments Yorkshire East’s Community Fund, an initiative which aims to support the communities in which the housebuilder operates with a different chosen charity each month, further support will be offered to the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust team to continue protecting wildlife and wild places across East Yorkshire. The donation will contribute to activities along the coast, including everything from beach cleans to raising awareness with local communities and businesses to reduce marine pollution, alongside helping families, schools and visitors to spot and enjoy the very best of Yorkshire’s wildlife.
Daniel Smith, Managing Director at Barratt Developments Yorkshire East commented: “Yorkshire Wildlife Trust does an amazing job in protecting our wildlife and areas within Yorkshire and they continue to educate us on the importance of such wildlife and their habitats. We’re so pleased to have been able to support them with our Community Fund donation and we hope that our donation will help to raise awareness of the vital work that the charity does, and help them to continue protecting Yorkshire’s wildlife.”
David Craven, Regional Manager East for Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, said: “We want to make Yorkshire wilder, and manage the impacts of our changing climate by working with our natural environment to give more wildlife a home. We thank Barratt Developments Yorkshire East for this generous Community Fund donation as these funds will aid us in our mission.”
